Tirohanga Nui is an architecturally designed residence located in, Oamaru, South Island, New Zealand. Designed by award-winning Virginia Barlow Architecture, the property is situated down a secluded private driveway and offers breathtaking 270-degree panoramic views of Oamaru's pristine Whitestone Historic Precinct, the vast Pacific Ocean, and the dramatic Kakanui Mountain Ranges.

The design emphasises perfect harmony with the surrounding natural environment, utilising premium low-maintenance local materials and incorporating bespoke features like our custom-designed balustrade inspired by the silhouette of the Kakanui Ranges. The interior showcases expansive open-plan living areas, generous outdoor decking on both eastern and western sides, and luxury suites with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the spectacular views of the Waitaki coastline.

Each private suite can be booked individually or Tirohanga Nui can be reserved exclusively with all three suites. All guests will enjoy exceptional hospitality and delicious bespoke menus, crafted from regional produce by the resident chef, included with each stay.

The host is a very welcoming person, there's an adorable dog, the house has a very charming, vintage feel, and the view is absolutely stunning. We also met a very loving couple from the Netherlands who were incredibly polite and kind. This was the happiest day of my trip, I feel so honored and grateful. Love you guys!!!

  • Absolutely stunning and exceeded all our expectations! We could truly feel the host’s genuine love and dedication in every detail. The breathtaking ocean view, artistic interior design, beautiful soft furnishings, and thoughtful service all left us deeply impressed. We were even treated to wonderful private dinners and delicious breakfasts made with great care. The location is perfect—very close to the penguin viewing area. The host Maree is incredibly kind and welcoming, and we absolutely fell in love with Zoe, the lovely dog who has her own special title: HR Manager, making everyone happy! This was definitely the best highlight of our New Zealand trip and the perfect final stop. It was not only a perfect 10/10 experience but also brought us so much inspiration for our own lives.
